Around the house
From our guesthouse in Tavel, Avignon is 15 min away, the Pont du Gard 25 min and Châteauneuf-du-Pape 20 min. Here are our favourites for a long weekend or a whole week.
The city of the popes, its UNESCO-listed Gothic palace and, in July, the world's largest theatre festival.
The most spectacular Roman aqueduct in Europe, UNESCO-listed. Swimming in the Gardon and walks in summer.
France's first duchy, compared to Tuscany. Its Saturday market on Place aux Herbes is a must.
The most famous wine village in the Rhône Valley, crowned by the ruins of the popes' castle.
Avignon's Gard bank: the Charterhouse, Fort Saint-André and its panorama, the Thursday market.
Pink flamingos, horses and bulls, lagoons as far as the eye can see. A great breath of nature, a listed Grand Site de France.
Tavel is France's only 100% rosé appellation. Several estates can be visited right around the house.
The great Rhône cycle route and the “Vine by Bike” loop cross the Tavel and Lirac vineyards.
On arrival, we'll gladly hand you a little map of our favourite spots — markets, tables and back roads.
Les Safrans is a guesthouse in Tavel, a little away from the centre: the ideal base to explore Avignon, the Pont du Gard and the vineyards, then come home to the quiet, away from the city bustle.
